Final Four Contest 2011: A Guide for Newbies Looking to Get in on the Fun
When the month of March rolls around, sports fans around the nation know that March Madness is just a couple of weeks away. March Madness is one of the most popular sporting events of the year, and for good reason. It literally has something for everyone, including huge upsets, plenty of star players, and a chance to see some of the very best teams in the entire nation. However, the number one reason that March Madness is so incredibly popular is the fact that you can fill out a bracket for it and track your picks. The entire bracket for the tournament is laid out in front of you and you pick the team that you think will win each game, until you are left with the team that you think will win the entire tournament. From this, the Final Four contest was created.
In the Final Four contest, you fill out your bracket with the teams that you think will win. If you enter a Final Four contest, though, you have the chance to really cash-in if you end up picking the correct teams to end up in the Final Four. This is much harder than it sounds, but it is also some of the best fun you can have involving sports. Depending on where you enter your tournament, you could win varying amounts of money for ending up with all four of your picks in the Final Four. Some places will award $50, some will award $100, and some will award you more. It really depends on where you enter your bracket. Regardless of the amount, it always feels incredible to win money based on something like predicting the correct Final Four.
While some people have luck at simply picking the teams that they think sound the best, it is unlikely that you will have much luck doing so. While a large part of filling out a March Madness bracket is luck, there is actually a lot of skill that goes into it as well. It would certainly be better if you were watching as much college basketball as possible during the regular season, but it is not a big deal if you only watch during the tournament. You should just be sure to analyze all the stats that you can. You should look at teams that are coming into March Madness on a hot streak, as that streak could last all the way to the Final Four. It is just as important to avoid teams that barely made it into the tournament. Teams that end their regular season on a losing streak are unlikely to get things turned around by the time the tournament starts.
You should treat a Final Four contest just like you would treat any other bet, which means that you want to be fully prepared. Besides looking at how the teams have been performing, you should also look at how the teams are seeded. For example, it is extremely unlikely that all four number 1 seeds will make the Final Four. While it can be tempting to put all of the 1 seeds in the Final Four, you are very unlikely to win any type of contest that way. Instead, it is important to really analyze the games. While it is impossible to know exactly how the games are going to play out, you can get a leg up by breaking down the first round games. Also, be sure to look at a really good team, such as a number 1 or number 2 seed that seems to have an easy road to the Final Four. There is almost always one region in the bracket that seems easier to predict than the other 3. You should focus on that region if you think that some of the top seeds will advance.
Participating in a Final Four contest is one of the best ways to get maximum enjoyment out of March Madness. As mentioned above, be sure to do your analysis and research once the bracket is released if you have not been watching the games. After you fill out your bracket, the only thing left for you to do is to get some good food and drinks, sit back, relax, and enjoy cheering your projected Final Four on to victory in all of their early games.
